The Art of City Building 2023: (Re)define
Building A Region of Unique Communities
The Art of City Building (AoCB) annual conference aims to inspire residents, planners, thinkers, doers, and dreamers to create great cities, communities, and places. As we embark on another year of AoCB, we invite you to join us in exploring the intricate "art" of building cities and take a deep dive into the essence of collaboration and co-creation.
This year's theme, "redefine," aims to provoke thought and discussion about the power dynamics and controls that shape our urban landscapes. We seek to normalize collaboration and community participation in city development to empower residents and foster inclusivity in decision-making. Against the backdrop of Downtown Halifax, the conference will provide a platform to discover valuable insights from other cities and explore creative approaches tailored to the unique context of Atlantic Canada. By bringing together a collective of residents, planners, and policy experts, the conference aims to redefine the approach to developing systemic solutions for the complex issues faced by cities across Atlantic Canada.
The conference will discuss the importance of community-centric approaches to land development and mobility while highlighting the significance of investing in local economies and promoting inclusive governance. Sessions will focus on creating real neighbourhoods and fostering regional economic cohesion.
The Art of City Building conference has historically attracted visionaries and practitioners who have triumphed over systemic obstacles and have shared their tales of implementing long-term solutions. This year's conference is no different. It will inspire and spark conversations on the future of mid-sized cities and the role Atlantic Canada plays in Canada's economic and social development.
Together, we will unravel the intricacies of urban development and build lasting positive change for generations to come.
Join us on September 18th at the Alderney Landing Theatre to learn, innovate, and contribute to the collective wisdom that will reshape our communities.
