Leon de Vreede
Sustainability Planner, Town of Bridgewater
Leon de Vreede (MCIP, LPP) is the Sustainability Planner for the Town of Bridgewater, where he coordinates its sustainability and climate change programs including the Energize Bridgewater initiative. Under Leon’s leadership, Bridgewater’s programs have been recognized for excellence through awards by organizations including the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities, Efficiency Nova Scotia, and GLOBE. Over the past year, he led the team that brought home a $5 million Smart Cities Challenge grant for Bridgewater’s innovative proposal to develop an Energy Poverty Reduction Program.
Originally from The Netherlands, Leon has been proud to call Nova Scotia home since 1999, when he came here to study environmental science at Acadia University. In 2015 he was an inaugural recipient of the provincial Clean Climate Leader Award.
